WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart has raised his concerns on mobile internet security and protection against malware. He replied to Apple’s statement on recent Pegasus spyware scandal where security vulnerabilities were exposed when the site was completely hacked. Cathcart further added to his statement that this should be a wake-up call for internet security and companies must pay proper attention towards it. The smartphones are either safe for everyone or they are not safe for anyone.
He also praised the likes of Microsoft and some other tech companies to speak on this issue and raise awareness among entire mobile industry. He emphasized on developing a fool-proof system where users can be assured of secured internet use. The Pegasus revelations suggested that it can exploit all recent iOS and Android versions and were capable of reading text messages, tracking calls, collecting passwords, and location tracking by targeting device’s microphone and camera.
Ivan Krstic, Head of Apple Security Engineering also said that Apple unequivocally condemns cyber-attacks against journalists, Human Rights activists, and other people like these who put their diligent efforts to make this world a better place to live. Apple has led the industry for decades in providing security innovations and making iPhones, the safest devices to be used. He further added that Apple is working continuously to defend the data of all its users and they are constantly developing new security features to make mobiles a better and safer device.
