Earlier this month, Facebook-owned Whatsapp issued an in-app notification to users asking them to either accept the changes in its Terms of Service and privacy policy by February 8, or risk losing access to their accounts. This has made many UAE residents switch to other alternative apps like Telegram or Signal.
Still, many of them are waiting to see whether WhatsApp reviews their terms of services and privacy policy. People have been stuck to one app since many years, so they have become a bit reluctant to switch to other app.
As per current statistics, people have chosen Signal more over other chatting apps after switching from WhatsApp. Many residents are still waiting till the deadline and hoping that WhatsApp might make some changes which will be user-friendly.
Tesla CEO and world’s richest man, Elon Musk, urged his followers on Twitter to use the Signal encrypted messaging app, which lead to a surge in users downloading the app. Online traffic also increased towards Telegram, another messaging app that has been Whatsapp’s biggest competitor for a while.
Will you consider deactivating your WhatsApp account and switching to Telegram, Signal or any other app? Will WhatsApp consider reviewing its terms of services and privacy policy after looking at what action people have taken? But, currently, UAE residents are switching to Signal or Telegram at a fast rate.
